Salam dari Brunei, Cerita Manis dari Klang

3rd June 1992, is one of the date that I cherish the most because that day was my first trip as a Jelita Journalist to Brunei Darussalam. There’s no words could describe how was my feelings at that time, it was simply indescribable! First time on an airbus, first time flying oversea as a journalist and because of this trip too finally I owned my first passport. It was like living every girls dream.

The 10 days trip was sponsored by Tourism Malaysia for Cuti-Cuti Malaysia’s promotion and maybe luck was on me, after 3 days signed in as Jelita’s journalist, the task was mine. 6 footed models, make up artist and designers were aliens to me at that time but after a few days I knew that this going to be my bread and butter. Mahathir Lokman, Bill Bora and Bill Keith were part of the trip too. Late night chats with them was beyond my imagination. A little girl from Kuala Kangsar, Perak who knew nothing about high fashion and haute couture is chit-chatting with one of the big designer in the world. Again, I’m living every girls dream.

One of the most interesting moments there was went we were invited to a wedding reception at Kampung Air. At first I thought everything was the same like us in Malaysia, neighbors lend a hand to set up everything from the newly weds dishes until the time to put up the tents; but no, it was totally different there. There were neither huge tents nor 1000 invitations. It was a very small and simple one. At the end of the receptions each and every one of us were given a pack of Nasi Minyak, a hand painted porcelain plate and a set of cup and saucer as a gift of appreciation. It was weird at first for me but yet a very interesting experience. The place is definitely not like ours ‘kampung air’ it is very simple and clean, just a few rows of bungalows fill with crystal vases and air-conditioned room.

However, ever since then I never got the chance to pay another visit to that wealthy country anymore. Maybe because of time constrain and other commitments. However on the other note, a few days ago I welcomed another student of mine from Brunei Darussalam, Hajah TT. A very bubbly and talented lady. She took the beginners class and as expected, she was definitely a fast learner. Besides Hajah TT another brilliant lady from Klang joined the class too. Her name is Rozita@Ita from Ita Delight cookies. She’s been in the cookie war for more than 10 years and now she’s trying on cupcakes, Ita just launched her latest book recently and busy with her cookies workshop.

Alhamdullilah, everything went well for that day. Pretty people with gorgeous cupcakes. Hope to see you again and goodluck in everything....:-))
